The event is being organised by property website Zoopla and includes a wide range of speakers, from estate agents and developers to bankers and lawyers. The event started with Harry Shultz, vice president at Perella Weinberg Partners LLP, who gave an overview of what Brexit could mean for the UK housing market. He warned that any restrictions placed on immigration could lead to a slowdown in house building, as well as higher house prices. However, he predicted that demand would still outstrip supply in most parts of the country.
Next up was Damien Hinds, chief executive officer of property website Zoopla. Hinds argued that there is no such thing as an affordable city anymore – even smaller cities like Bath are now out of reach for many people due to rising rents and house prices. He called for governments to take action to prevent gentrification from happening wholesale and said that homeowners should be more proactive in dealing with renovates – something he says is becoming increasingly common in London.
